Why to still prefer firefox ...

Though google newly launched chrome ( web browser ) has made a lot of buzz , but still to compete with mozilla is a hard task .
At present the biggest positive point for firefox is , firstly its grasp on the market and its wide range of add-ons :

Are you a Firefox user? If so, this feature is especially for you. There are plenty who still use IE, but the popularity of Firefox is rising, with more and more users getting hooked to it. I like Firefox mainly for the add-on plugins, which are easily available on the official website. You will find scores of them, but I shall list the five I find most interesting. There are so many options that no two persons will have the same list. So if you have anything to add, or if you disagree with me, do leave a comment. It will provide readers with more options.

Stumble Upon
This is simply the best add-on any Web browser could use. It appeals mainly to those who love to go through anything interesting on the World Wide Web. The way it works is very simple: after installing it you will see an icon on the top left of your browser. Every time you have the time, just click it and it will take you to any of the sites that other stumble users have tagged as "I Like".

It could be anything; an interesting Flickr account, or an obscure site with 3D fractal generators. If you like what you are reading, you can even write a review. It's all available to you at a click of a button.

That's not all. Interestingly, the site maintains a tab of what you like and what you have shrugged off as boring, and will regularly display content that matches your tastes. In fact, if you discover a website that you like, you can add it to the list for others to see as well.

You can get the plugin here.

Me.dium
Me.dium comes in handy when you make travel/movie plans with friends. How? "Be social when you surf the Web" is what the guys who made Me.dium tell you. Simply put, this plugin allows you to chat and surf the same web page (with your friends) at the same time.

To do this, everybody in your social circle will need to install this plugin, and add each other as friends. You will see your friends on your Me.dium network list (on the left of the browser). Below each name will be a link to what they are surfing presently. This especially comes in useful when everyone is researching the same topic.

Don't worry; it won't take your friends to your Gmail account if that's what's bothering you. One thing to remember is that by installing this plugin you are allowing Me.dium to gain access to your surfing history. It works across Facebook, YouTube, StumbleUpon, MySpace, Flickr, Digg, Yahoo, and Google.

Get the plugin here.

Better Gmail 2
Ever since it launched (and even before it actually did), Gmail's gained prominence. I don't know anyone who isn't on it. So it makes sense to talk about a plugin that improves the way you use Gmail.

Better Gmail 2 does exactly what the name suggests. Apart from being able to change the skin at the click of a button, you get many other options. Firstly, every mail with attachments will have the respective display icons in the inbox, so you'll know whether it's (say) a word file or a PDF.

One important tweak this plugin offers is that every mailto: link you click will in turn be diverted to your Gmail account, rather than the erstwhile Outlook Express. You can also learn additional keyboard shortcuts. That's brilliant, I think.

You can get the plugin here.
DownThemAll
I use this so often that I don't know what I'd do without it. On the face of it, DownThemAll is promoted as a download accelerator that's capable of increasing speeds by 400 percent. It gives you 'pause' and 'resume' options, and the best part is it allows you to download all the links or images on a web page by clicking a single button.

After installing, if you right-click on any page (say, Flickr) and click on DownThemAll, it will show a window with all the available pictures and download links. You can select what you like and start downloading. With this plugin you won't need an external download manager.

Get the plugin here.

Fast Video Download
I'm sure many of you techies will have this already installed. For the clueless, it's a useful plugin for YouTube fans. It allows you to download videos from sites such as hi5.com, metacafe.com, vids.myspace.com, YouTube, and more.

A small icon at the bottom right of the browser page will show up after the plugin is installed. All you need to do is surf to the page where the video is streaming, and click on the icon. It will ask you if you would like to download it. Click on 'yes' and you are done. For downloading from YouTube, you will need an FLV player. Download it from the official website, or just get the VLC Media player.

Get the plugin here.

Intel Announces Rs. 5,000 Desktop for the Indian Market

I read this news while surfing net , the one word came to mind was tata , yea i know that has no relation with it but i thought this idea might be inspired from cheapest car from tata (nano) .

Intel India Thursday launched the 'Connected Indians' movement, which aims at providing to users cheap machines dubbed as nettops and netbooks.

Collaborating with Intel are industry partners such as original equipment manufacturers and Internet service providers, as well as the government.

Less than a decade ago, personal computers came attached with a price tag of more than Rs. 50,000, and the average person could at best own an 'assembled' desktop at anything between Rs. 20,000-Rs. 25,000.

Awareness among the masses is reason to pop such an audacious idea from intel . This movement will really increase the development rate in social and economic society .

The launch of the low-cost connectivity initiative marked the coming together of Intel, the various OEMs and the government, as well as other stakeholders such as talent developer NIIT, telecom operators such as Tata Teleservices, Tata Communication and Reliance Communications, and industry lobbies CII, Assocham and WiMax Forum.

Intel also signed an agreement with state-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd to jointly popularise broadband Internet and wireless broadband technology WiMAX.

3 idiots (Chetan Bhagat's novel Five Point Someone, based)

As movie based on chetan's second novel "One Night At Call Centre " is set to release titled "Hello",
his first novel in also in limelight , i just came across its starcast and first teaser poster of the film .

Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Madhavan and Boman Irani has gone on the floors. The film is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's novel Five Point Someone. The first teaser poster of the film is out and has a huge blackboard with mathematical formulae scribbled on it.

Work in progress

Sources reveal that Hirani doesn't want to give away the look of his protagonists soon, which is why the teaser doesn't have any of the actors in it. However, work on the film is underway and Hirani plans to wrap 3 Idiots by December.

Begins September

The source adds, "The shoot of the film with the supporting characters has already begun, Hirani and his team are in Simla and the film is scheduled to be shot in Ladakh, Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai as well. Aamir and rest of the cast will begin shooting in early September."

Shantanu Moitra has given the music for 3 Idiots while the lyrics are by Swanand Kirkire.

Class is on

Apparently, author Chetan Bhagat was the first to see the poster and quite liked the final result. "Since the setting is that of an engineering college campus the poster had to have elements of a classroom."

The poster has been designed by Rahul Nanda.
This is mine 2nd blog related to chetan bhagat's novel , and hope some more to come in future .
I am really waiting how aamir performs in the movie , hope he plays the role of ryan .

Tallest Man Meets Shortest Man

Today i just came across this really amazing video while surfing on youtube , i was really stunned while watching the video.

Tallest man (Bao Xishun) is 56(b:1951)
Smallest man (He Pingping) is 19 (b:1988)

I wonder if both were brothers what a bizarre combination would it be , the shortest person looks like he has just born and is adorable too.

A study says 99.99% of genes are same among the human beings , its only .001% that makes all the difference of height , colour , features ..... huh , sounds really straying from our thinking but its true.

SMS to know if the product you are buying is fake

The power to decide whether the medicine or soap you buy is a fake is now in your hand. All you need to do it to press a few keys on your mobile phone and send an SMS.

Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR), a body providing ground and field force services to crack down on counterfeit, has tied up with PAC Med Biotech and Kezzler technologies to promote the concept in India.

The concept is simple. The products are labelled with a unique code like which the consumers can SMS to a number. A reply from Kezzler's server, which stores the code, will help verify whether the product in question is authentic or fake.

For medicines i feel its very novel idea but incase of soap , i don't think its functional since who is willing to spend rs3 for rs15 soap . So now whats the next step after buying monthly groceries , take a mobile and start sms'ing to know whether the product is fake or not , And also don't forget to buy a recharge voucher after buying your monthly groceries.

One disappointing Night At Call Centre .

I am one of the fanatic of chetan bhagat's novel though he had just written only three of them.
I had just finished reading his second novel "One Night At Call Centre" , After reading his first novel "Five Point Someone" which i read in single stretch .

This novel doesn't meet up the standard which chetan concocted in his first novel , this was stretching up like a rubber band before coming to the main point , and with an inapt ending .
Though it was pleasure reading this novel too , his style of telling a story is simply superb.

The novel revolves around a group of six call center employees working in Connexions call center in the Delhi suburb of Gurgaon in Haryana. It is filled with a lot of drama with unpleasant things happening to all of the leading characters. The story takes a dramatic and decisive turn when they get a phone call from God.
When Asked chetan :
"

Your style of writing is totally unlike your contemporaries. The use of conversational, informal lingo is what has earned you your biggest fans and your greatest detractors. Comment.

We live in an age where everyone talks via SMS.

I have always believed that the only function of language is communication.

The language used in a book ought to be to communicate ideas. It is easy to impress someone by using multi-syllable words. It is much more difficult to write simply. Just because you don't need a dictionary to understand my book, it does not mean it cannot have emotions. Flowery language kills humour. Anyway, it is not my cup of tea."

I have just begin to read his 3rd book " The 3 Mistakes of my Life " .... and to complete his trio ....

Will definitely blog my personal review about that book too...

If u haven't read his first "Five Point Someone" and u are doing engg ... then u must grab it now ...

When 2 perfectionist met ..

Though this blog is in context of a story occurred months ago , but i came to know just a min back and i couldn't desist myself from this blog .
Aamir Khan one of the million lover of cricket was delighted to be seated besides Little Master Sachin Tendulkar . It was the time when two of the perfectionist sat along each other , me being the fan of both was really flabbergast to read the Aamir's blog sharing his experience .

Aamir in his blog on www.aamirkhan.com relives the memorable experience of watching the thrilling final with the Master Blaster himself. The perfectionist says, "The match last night was certainly exciting but what made it a unique experience for me, was that I had Sachin next to me. You will find this hard to believe, but Sachin was able to predict every ball before it was bowled. 'He is going to bowl a Bouncer next.' 'This one is going to be a slower one.' 'Next one will be a Yorker.' It was uncanny. He got it right each time!!! No wonder it's so difficult to bowl to him. He has an amazing instinct."

After bring dumbstruck by the Master Blaster's acumen the actor apparently told Sachin, that the next time they watch a film together it would be his turn to tell what's going to happen next.

I could realize what made him the world no.1 cricketer , that was really awesome .....

Bollywood Meets Beijing

We already have seen how abhinav's gold have generated such a furor among the indians towards the Olympics and lugged the sponsors too . But it was not only the moment to cheer about for an indian , the B-Town music made some tune as well and was too astounded by the public.

Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om track Dhoom Tana made an appearance at the Beijing Olympics! The Israeli team participating in the rhythmic gymnastics brought B-Town music to the fore by performing their final routine to the beats of Dhoom Tana (music scored by Vishal-Shekhar) from OSO. The gymnasts included Katerina Pisetsky, Veronika Vitenberg, Rahel Vigdozchik, Maria Savenkov and Olena Dvornichenko.

Indian public watching the ceremony was also astonish to listen the song since no prior indications were made by the media , when made media asked Farah Khan the director of OSO , she was very happy to see that song has gone to international level . Originally song was featured on Bollywood King Khan ( Shah Rukh Khan ) and Deepika Padukone.

Something to cheer about in the end too ......

Crashed the crush on soft drinks..

Yea i am an addict to cold drinks like millions other , but today onwards i pledge not to drink it anymore , its difficult to stop it forthwith though i will try my best to control it atleast then slowly put it off from mine life .

I would prefer any beverages other than cold drinks even though that make my pocket lighter , its not an instantaneous decision , i have been thinking about it over months now but this blog could be like written pledging in front of mine friends but my dear friends don't be so happy i could take a sip if you are buying it ( never a full bottle , u know controlling measures ).

Here are some harmfull effect which i saw while surfing the net , it may pop out a thought in your mind too , yea i m talking about controling the softdrinks .

"It has been linked to broken bones, osteoporosis, and obesity. It may increase diabetes rates and the severity of kidney stones. It can lead to nervousness, insomnia, attention-deficit disorder and addiction."

I don't know about "addiction", but the other effects are apparent. Best to drink tea, water, or even our desi choice nimbu pani (lemonade).

Movies that made me closest to tear ..

Its not often i cry while watching movies , i am a facetious personality . Last night i watched
The Pursuit Of Happiness , It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me love my life.
Movies like this makes me live life to fullest , to find a moment of joy even life is giving you hard turns , to handle the steering of life , to have jerks when obstacle comes yet to enjoy them .

In the movie Chris Gardner , heart warming performance by Will smith has big dreams for him and his family but it doesn't seem to come together for him. Chris has an opportunity to be a stock broker but first he has to go through a grueling internship which means no pay. Chris decides to do it but when his wife leaves and he is evicted, he has to take care of his son on his own. So they find themselves sometimes living on the street and struggling to get by. But Chris is determined to make it.

Movies like Remember the Titans is another of mine favorites , which deals with racism and how the coach boone played by Denzel Washington , he made black and white players learn to accept each other, to work together, and that football knows no race . I was astounded to see the determination of the coach .

Another movie which i watched in recent times was The shawshank redemption , in the movie its very heartwarming to see the performance of Andrew , who was sent to shawshank prison . He is very isolated and lonely at first, but realises there is something deep inside your body, that people can't touch and get to....'HOPE' . And how he escapes by crawling through sewage pipe , in which the people like me and you would couldn't last seconds.

Last not the least is mine mother tongue hindi movie Taare Zameen Par , an another exquisite performance by bollywood perfectionist Aamir Khan , this movie is also very close to my heart .
I cried the most watching this movie .

Prison Break one of the most speculated tv series is returning on FOX on 9/1 . The furor this show have created has made it the best among the adventure category .
I am amongst the millions of aficionado round the globe of this show , let tell you a bit summary of this show :

Prison Break is a drama from executive producers Brett Ratner, Paul Scheuring, Matt Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, Dawn Parouse and Neal Moritz.

After getting himself incarcerated in Fox River State Penitentiary to free his wrongly accused brother, Lincoln Burrows, Michael Scofield is now on the loose–along with his brother and six other convicts. Set to uncover the $5 million hidden by D.B. Cooper, the escapees attempt to evade capture–being tailed by both Captain Brad Bellick and FBI Special Agent Alexander Mahone.

Wentworth Miller alias Micheal Scofield the main actor of this show is exquisite , his looks and acting skills has made his brad pitt of the small screen . I feel much desperate to watch the special screening episode on 9/1 which is of 2 hours .

For those who are tracking the show , really desperate to see sarah back in the show and how michael takes revenge from the company , as per the interviews and speculations it is said we are gonna see the dark said of michael in season 4 .

The iPhone I have been waiting for , Dreamz shattered ..

" Hello Gaurav,

Thank you for registering for your Apple iPhone 3G™ with us.

We are delighted to announce that the iPhone 3G will be available in India from August 22, 2008
It will be available in 8GB & 16GB models, priced at Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,100 respectively.

Be the first to get the iPhone "

Yesterday Early in morning i received this mail from vodafone
and what was next , my dreamz of buying the iphone shattered .

At Rs. 31,000 for the 8GB version, and Rs. 36,100 for the 16GB version, it is more expensive than pretty much every single phone ever touted as an iPhone killer, with a spec-and-features-sheet a mile longer than the iPhone.

While reading reviews of iphone from different websites i came to a conclusion that Vodafone and Airtel - these are stereotypical capitalist thugs who are openly blackmailing millions of Indians.

Apple iPhone is an innovative phone but have to use its two important weapons to overshadows other mobiles in indian market , one is price dropping and other is software development which we have seen in past is very effectively used by Apple .

Sushil wrestles bronze while Vijender Assures another medal

Unheralded Sushil Kumar rose from obscurity to find a place in the history of Indian sport when he won a bronze medal in men's 66kg freestyle wrestling at the Beijing. Sushil wrestled today to increase the india medal tally to 2.
Earlier Abhinav Bindra won gold medal for india .

Also later today i witnessed the astounding performance by indian boxer vijender , he has assured his place in semi-finals of the middleweight (75kg) category and atleast a bronze medal to add to the indian glory at Beijing '08 .

Vijender defeated Ecuador's Carlos Gongora 9-4 at the Workers' Gymnasium. Vijender looked indefatigable and his nimble footwork as indian tired out his opponent to win the game .
Unlike Akhil Kumar who defeated the world champion earlier this week but lost in quater final by an unexperienced boxer , he was very cool headed and played with a proper strategy to reap atleast a bronze medal from here .

We must also congratulate IOA ( Indian Olympic Association ) for giving a very good infrastructure to our indian boxers .

From this stage there could be only improvement in IOA since we have seen much messed up IOA earlier .

How to shutdown pc with timer .!

How to shutdown pc with timer

METHOD 1

Do you know that you can make your PC shutdown at a time u wish to?
Here is the trick!
How To Make A Shutdown Timer!

Step 1:

Right click on your desktop and choose "New=>shortcuts".

Step 2:

In the box that says "Type the location of the shortcut",
type in "shutdown -s -t 3600" without the quotation marks and click next.

Note: 3600 are the amount of seconds before your computer shuts down. So , 60secs*60mins=3600secs.

Step 3:

Make up a name for the shortcut and you're done.
You can change the icon by right clicking=>properities=>change icon=>browse.

To abort:

To make an abort key to stop the shutdown timer just create another shortcut and make
the "location of the shortcut" to " shutdown -a" without the quotes.

METHOD 2

Here is another trick to shutdown at a specific time, for example you wish to shutdown at 11:35am. Type this in

METHOD 3

you can use a batch for that as well it makes it easier to use

shutdown.bat
Type Code:
@echo off
title Scheduled Shutdown Batch Example by chacha1234
color A
echo Enter Time To Shutdown (example 19:30)

at %stime% ""shutdown -s -t 00"" >nul
echo Your PC Will Auto Shutdown At %stime%
echo Press Any Key To Exit
pause >nul
exit

also you can add -c "desired message" at the end of the shutdown command
for example
shutdown -s -t 60 -c "Shutdown Pc"

using this command u can also schedule ur pc to restart
for example
shutdown -r -t 60 -c "Restarting Pc"

Change Text on XP Start Button

Hi,
I feel windows start button is quit boring , how about writing your name or your brand name upon it , yea it seems interesting and lets do it .
This is mine original taskbar , that i suppose what we call it :

Step 1 – Modify Explorer.exe File
As we all know its a binary file so we need a special editor to deal with it , we need resource editor for it , its a utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res) and its a freeware so u can download it for free.

The first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at
C:\Windows\explorer. Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe.
Open C:\Windows\explorer in resource hacker :-

The category we are going to be using is String Table. Expand it by clicking on the '+' sign followed by expanding '37' in the similar fashion. Click on '1033', On the right side it displays a string table .

We’re going to modify item 578, currently showing the word “start” just as it displays on the current Start button.
Replace Start from your desired name .
Then click on COMPILE SCRIPT which is clickable now ( turned to grey ) . Now go to file -->> save as ( use only save as command ).

Make sure you use save as command only . Next save it by name explorerhiga.exe ( higa in my case ) in C:\Windows\explorer .

Step 2 -> Modify the Registry
Open registry incase u don't know how to open , go to run type regedit , registry opens .
then go to :-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

In the right pane double click the Shell entry to open the Edit String dialog box . In Value data: line enter the name that was used to save the modified explorer.exe file. Click OK.

Now close the registry editor and log off or reboot your system and see the magic .

Hope this helps you out in changing the boring xp start button .

Trying To Hide HTML Source Code .

Hi,
Today many of the websites are suffering by privacy , there templates are copied by other websites and that too can not be traced out .
There source code is easily seen through the browser , there are many practice done to hide the source code but really non of them is successful .
One of the most used practice is to encrypt the source code but it could be decrypted very easily since our browser needs to read the code , so it can be seen.
Other type of practice is disabling the right click on the page source so as to avoid copy directly , but that too have an alternative One could save it to his/her computer then use the copy function.
JavaScript used disable right click on source code is :

<script type="text/javascript>
var message="You can't see the page code"
function click(e) {
if (document.all) {
if (event.button==2||event.button==3) {
alert(message);
return false;
}
}
if (document.layers) {
if (e.which == 3) {
alert(message);
return false;
}
}
}

if (document.layers) {
document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);
}
document.onmousedown=click;
</script>

Enjoy ..... :)

Xubuntu : A heck of a lot of problem ..

Yesterday , I had a pleasant night after completing my website template on Xubuntu . You would be wondering , why i am talking about mine yesterday night .
Its because after a successful session of work there was a problem which wasted mine last 4hours ...
I have faced a lot of problems on Xubuntu but not like this one . When i waked up in the morning started mine pc , logged into Xubuntu opened the terminal ..
Guess What was next ... How do i close it ... NO minimize No cross ( close option)
was there .
But i was able to access net , so as ubuntu forums ... posted my query but response i got , was too late , it was mine 4th post which solved my problem that too not fully .

Look the pic there is no close option on top , not either there is maximize or the minimize.
The same condition was of mozilla firefox too..

How did I solved this problem :

1--> go to the terminal or press alt+F2
2--> sudo apt-get install metacity
3--> type metacity --replace , but don't close the terminal now, otherwise they will vanish again.
4-->Now Log Out of the system, but make sure the save session check box is ticked.
5-->Now Log In and close the terminal. You should now able to see all the missing options now .

Resize a Partition for Free in Windows Vista

Windows Vista includes a built-in functionality in Disk Management to shrink and expand partitions. No more 3rd party utilities needed!
To open it up just go to control panel search for partition and you'll immediately see the link show up:

Shrink a Partition

In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to shrink, and select "Shrink Volume" from the menu.

In the Shrink dialog, you will want to enter the amount you want to shrink by, not the new size. For example, if you want to shrink your 50gb partition by roughly 10gb so that it will now be roughly 40gb, enter 10000 into the box:

Extend a Partition

In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to shrink, and select "Extend Volume" from the menu.

On this screen, you can specify the amount that you want to increase the partition by. In this case, I'm going to extend it back to the roughly 50GB size that it was before.

Note that the extend partition feature only works with contiguous space.
